With all due respect to Clint Dempsey, who is enjoying another superb campaign at Craven Cottage, it's becoming increasingly arguable that Bolton's Stuart Holden is having the finest current season by an American abroad.
The 25-year-old's European endeavors hit a spectacular high Sunday, when he fired home the game-winning volley in the 88th minute of Bolton's 2-1 win over Blackburn in the Lancashire derby. The strike came just seconds after the Rovers had equalized against 10-man Bolton via a Mame Biram Diouf tally.
Playing his first match since Nov. 20 after recovering from a thigh injury, Holden ran onto Kevin Davies' header at the top of the penalty area and took a touch off his chest before thumping a left-footed volley between goalkeeper Paul Robinson and the near post.
