You woke up Wednesday playing for a team that has the fourth-worst record in the NHL, 16-21-6. You have yet to win in 2011 and your next game is against another sad sack club, the New York Islanders. The season-high six-game losing streak is the longest for Ottawa since the 1995-96 season, when it went through three coaches and two general managers. A seventh straight loss could spell curtains for coach Cory Clouston and/or general manager Bryan Murray.
Your team is ranked 29th in goals per game (2.2) and the prospects for improvement aren't great. Ottawa scorers have gone south for what seems like an extended stay. You have a no-movement clause in your contract and the vultures are already circling the Senators, waiting for the fire sale to begin. The NHL's trade deadline is Feb. 28 and a quick look around the dressing room shows you the number of untouchables can be counted on one hand.
