Similarly, a medical examiner in San Antonio, Texas, announced an accidental overdose of multiple drugs and a weakened heart as the causes of former tag team champion Lance Cade's death. The report notes that an enlarged or weakened heart, has been linked to the use of anabolic steroids, but there was no confirmation that his death was linked to steroid use.
Both Cade and Vachon passed away in August.
WWE's spokesman Robert Zimmerman issued a statement saying:
"WWE goes to great lengths to help our former talent who may have substance abuse problems, offering complete drug rehabilitation at no cost to them. ... Ultimately however, stars in any form of entertainment should be held personally responsible for their own actions."
He went on to say that World Wrestling Entertainment has obtained e-mails written by Cade to another wrestler that said he'd ordered two kinds of steroids in March 2010 and would fail a WWE-sanctioned drug test.
"A lot of athletes have enlarged hearts," Zimmerman said. "The bottom line is, his usage speaks for itself."
