Dez Bryant Brushes Off $55K Dinner

Filed under:

Dez Bryant has been no stranger to weird headlines in his rookie year, perhaps the weirdest coming last month when the sports world had a great deal of fun with a $54,896 dinner for the Cowboys that Bryant paid for. The dinner was thought to be payback for Bryant refusing to carry Roy Williams' pads as the rookie hazing tradition dictates, though Williams himself downplayed any hard feelings behind the "saga."

Now, speaking for the first time since that dinner on Thursday, Bryant himself downplayed it as well.

"It is funny. It was always funny," Bryant said. "I don't think about the dinner. I just don't like how some people are [portraying it]. It was all fun.

"It's what rookies are supposed to do. Some of the older guys apologized. There was no need for them to apologize."

"It's like trying to fit in basically," Bryant continued. "I feel like those are the things you have to do in order to be a part of the team. The older guys helped me understand earlier in the year that everybody goes through it. It happens. It's no big deal. Everything's fine. Everybody's having fun. That's the great thing about it."
