During the second period of Saturday's preseason game between the Montreal Canadiens and New York Islanders (a 7-2 Canadiens win), Montreal's Michael Cammalleri was issued a five-minute major and a game-misconduct for his two-handed slash to the ankle of Islanders rookie Nino Niederreiter .The incident occurred after the two players were involved in what appeared to be a routine collision along the boards, which was then followed by Cammallerri swinging his stick near Niederreitier's head, and then taking a baseball bat-like swing at the back of his ankle, knocking him to the ice.
