Danroy Henry's family believes the Pace University football player -- who was fatally shot by police gunfire early Sunday morning outside a bar when a fight broke out -- was "singled out" because he was black, the New York Post reports. The Henry family says they will not rest until they learn the truth about what happened when their son was killed by two officers.Henry, a junior, reportedly sped away from police after his car was parked in a fire lane and had the window tapped on by an officer. One officer was reportedly in front of the car and another clung to Henry's hood as the car sped off at approximately 1:30 a.m.
Annemarie Masciarelli, the next-door neighbor and close friend of Henry's parents told the New York Post that the family "feels he was singled out by the police because he's a young African-American."
Henry's parents posted a note on their front door in North Easton, Mass. to thank those in support of them during the difficult time. Pictures of their deceased 20-year-old son were attached to the note.
"We will not stop until the truth is out!" Danroy Sr. and Angela Henry wrote.
Hours before their son's death, they watched him play in his last football game at Pace University's homecoming.
The note also read: "We appreciate and love all of you! We know you loved DJ too. You can help by telling everyone and the media how wonderful Danny was. What type of person he was. Talk about his character, smile and how above all, he loved his family!"
"Thank you, thank you, thank you."
At Monday's press conference, Mount Pleasant Police Department Chief Louis Alagno said, "I can't describe or answer to you why the driver did what he did."
