Matt Cassel Listed as Doubtful for Sunday

Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel missed a third consecutive practice Friday since undergoing an appendectomy and all indications are that he won't play in Sunday's game in San Diego against the Chargers.

Backup Brodie Croyle is slated to go in the place of Cassel, who was officially listed as doubtful by the Chiefs.

It would be the first action of the season for Croyle, who is 0-9 as a starter during his four-year career. The Chiefs earlier this week promoted quarterback Tyler Palko from the practice squad to serve as a backup if needed.

Cassel, whose play has been instrumental in the Chiefs rise to the top of the AFC West, had his appendix removed on Wednesday. Medical literature relating to an appendectomy cautions against a return to any type of strenuous activity for a minimum three to five days with a full recovery taking anywhere from 10 to 28 days.
